Virat Kohli surpasses 16-year-old record previously held by Dravid

Virat Kohli might have missed out on a century at Day 2 of the third Test taking place in Melbourne today but he did not miss the chance at breaking a record.

Though he was dismissed at 82 by Mitchell Starc, Kohli managed to break a 16-year-old record held by Indian batsman Rahul Dravid. Kohli surpassed Dravid and became the highest Indian run-getter in overseas Tests in a calendar.

Dravid's 1,137, scored in 2002, was surpassed by Kohli. Apart from Kohli and Dravid, the top run-getters are Mohinder Amarnath, who scored 1,065 runs in 1983 and Sunil Gavaskar's 918 runs in 1971.
