Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara is a film directed by Rowthiram fame Gokul and boasts of an ensemble cast that includes Vijay Sethupathi, Ashwin K, Swathi, Nandita, Pasupathy among others. Music is by Siddarth Vippin who has composed 3 tracks for this album. A bonus track has been contributed by Ved Shankar.

En Veetula
Singers: Gaana Bala
Lyrics: Lalithanad

A gaana song that is presented in a very creative fashion. While the track shows some heart each time the beautiful chords resonate in the background, it quickly shifts stance to its light-hearted nature with the nursery rhymes. Gaana Bala shows superb control over his voice and is utterly enjoyable. Siddarth Vipin keeps the mood peppy with Punjabi flavoured hooks and lively percussions. You shouldn’t be surprised if toddlers start to sing their nursery rhymes in this tune henceforth!

Yaen Endraal
Singers: Hariharan
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

A soft romantic number that’s presumably a birthday gift, going by Karky’s lyrics. Apart from the nifty guitar, what stands out is Hariharan’s splendid vocal performance. The singer is in sparkling touch on this one. The composer keeps the proceedings interesting with a wonderful violin solo and likewise with a nice build up of strings towards the end .

Enge Ponalum
Singers: Dr.Narayanan, Naresh Iyer
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

This is not your usual soup song as the director and lyricist have come up with a unique ‘retaliation’ concept. The harmless and fun laced lyrics are the song’s mainstay and Karky leaves enough options for the scheming ex-lover. The composer backs up  this mid-tempo tune with some fast paced percussions in the interludes and does well not to dilute the enjoyable melody and groove. The choice of Naresh Iyer for this colloquial tune may have been a gamble but the singer does his bit rather convincingly.

Naaye Naaye
Singers: Ved Shankar
Lyrics: Ved Shankar
This quirky little track was originally recorded for Naduvala Konjam Pakkatha Kannom but its being used in this film as a background piece. The track may seem like the composer is monkeying around with a fun idea but there’s definitely some thought behind his execution.
Verdict: A crisp and well produced album with some catchy numbers.
