Policeman booked for blackmailing and raping a rape survivor

In a shocking case reported from Maharashtra, a 34-year-old police sub-inspector has been absconding after he was booked for blackmailing and raping a rape survivor. The accused cop was investigating the survivor's case for the past one year.

According to a report in Times of India, the accused cop, identified as Rohan Ganjari, was posted with the Kangaon police station. The accused cop was investigating the case of a 26-year-old woman, who claimed that her boyfriend's name was added in her rape FIR against her wishes. And, when she sought for it to be removed, Ganjari blackmailed her and eventually raped her.

The woman had met 28-year-old Satish while on a vacation in her aunt's house in 2015. Soon they became close and Satish established physical relations after promising marriage. After sometime, Satish's earlier girlfriend Rabiya, got to know about the woman's relationship with Satish and threatened her. Reportedly, as per the woman's complaint, Rabiya invited her at her residence for a discussion and served her juice laced with sedatives.

The woman was raped by a friend of Rabiya while Rabiya recorded the act. Rabiya then began blackmailing her and demanded Rs 50,000.

The survivor told TOI that she then approached Kongaon police station last year, to lodge a complaint against Rabiya and her friends. However, the report claimed that the cops added Satish's name in the FIR as well. After which Ganjari demanded sexual favours for removing Satish's name from the FIR.

On August 8, Ganjari took the woman to a Kalyan lodge and raped her. Before that, he made sure he had her signature on a statement saying she had a physical relationship with him by her own consent. Ganjari began demanding sexual favours regularly, and fed up, she approached the Kongaon police against Ganjari on Thursday.
