Assistant Commissioner Of Police booked for raping criminal\'s wife

An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) with the Delhi Police has been booked for allegedly raping a woman, said a senior police official.

The Delhi Police Crime Branch has now launched investigation into the allegations made by the woman. The officer in question, Ramesh Dahiya, was recently promoted to the rank of ACP after serving as a Station House Officer (SHO) of a police station.

According to The Hindu, Dahiya was sent on medical leave after the woman lodged an initial complaint of rape against him. Meanwhile, a senior police official has confirmed than an FIR has been filed against Dahiya, and that the case has been transferred to the Crime Branch.

Police say that the complainant, a mother of three, was married to a criminal, who got in touch with the accused officer after her husband's demise. The accused who was serving as SHO at that point, befriended the woman on the pretext of helping her. He allegedly raped her on several occasions.

While an initial FIR was registered in July, the woman raised the issue among senior police officials on September 17. An investigation in the case is currently underway.
