Man calls cops to help push stolen vehicle and gets arrested

In a rather hilarious moment, a man driving away with a van that he had stolen was nabbed near Puzhal. The stolen van broke down in the middle of the road and the man asked two people to come and assist him in pushing it. However, the two men turned out to be policemen in plain clothes.

The thief has been identified as 27-year-old Bajali alias Balakrishnan. According to police, Bajali had broken into the Tata Ace van parked on the road side in Vellore and came as far as Puzhal where it broke down.

Constables R Selvamanikam and P Madhan Kumar, both employed at the Puzhal prison, had gotten off duty and were sipping tea at a nearby shop when the van halted there. The thief got off the van, and approached the two men for help, unaware of their identity.

When Balaji, along with the 2 men were pushing the van, the policemen spotted the front window damaged and vehicle keys missing. Realising something was off, they detained Balaji and spoke to the vehicle owner, whose number was written on the back of the van. The owner confirmed to them that the van had indeed been stolen.

The policemen nabbed him and handed him over to the Puzhal police. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Bajali was a repeat offender and was also involved in an attempt to murder case at the Red Hills police station.
