Man asks cops to track his lost chappals worth Rs 800

People go to the police with all sorts of requests to trace out their lost valuables. But what about a pair of chappals worth Rs 800?

Rajesh Gupta, a native of Rajasthan who runs a hardware store in Parrys Corner, asked police to trace his lost pair of chappals, saying they were new and chosen by his wife. Gupta told police that he had left his footwear outside a private diagnostic lab opposite the Tondiarpet post officer in Thiruvottiyur High Road.

When he returned 10 minutes after a blood test, his pair of chappals were missing. He raised a complained with the laboratory staff, who said that they had not seen anything. He then walked into the Tondiarpet police station to lodge a formal complaint.

Gupta told police that he had bought footwear for his entire family, and that he was upset about his missing chappals as they were chosen by his wife.

When police went to the clinic, the staff told them that the CCTV cameras had not been working for the past couple of days. Police said that the person incharge at the laboratory had agreed to pay Gupta Rs 800 to avoid further trouble. However, police's attempts to contact him went in vain.

"Don't mock me for making a complaint to the police," a furious Gupta, who resides on Illaya Mudali Street in Tondiarpet told Times of India.
