FIR filed against student who shouted anti-BJP slogans

An FIR has been filed against a student Sofia Lois, who's studying in Canada, for allegedly raising anti-BJP slogans at Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Tamilisai Soundarajan. The incident is alleged to have happened at the Thoothukudi airport on Monday.

While Sofia has been staunch in her stance of not apologising, many critics have come down heavily on Tamilisai for taking dissent at freedom of speech and expression.

Police filed FIR under Indian Penal Code Sections 290 (Punishment for public nuisance in cases not otherwise provided for), 505(Statements Conducing to Public Mischief) as well as Section 75(1) of the Tamil Nadu City Police Act, 1888.
