Commando security given to CM Palaniswami\'s residence after rumours

DMK patriarch Dr M Karunanidhi passed away on Tuesday at 6.10 pm at the Kauvery Hospital. The five-time CM was admitted at the hospital on July 26 following fever due to urinary tract infection. Despite him responding well to the treatment at the beginning, his health condition declined.

Earlier on Tuesday, DMK working president MK Stalin met with CM Edappadi K Palaniswami at his residence in Greenways Road. MK Alagiri and Kanimozhi, along with TR Balu, 'Murasoli' Selvam and Ex-Minister I Periyasamy also attended the meeting.

It was reported that Stalin had requested for space near CN Annadura's memorial in Marina Beach. CM Palaniswami was reported as saying that he will consider Stalin's request and will allow it if the law permits. TN govt, however, later officially announced that space cannot be allocated in Marina and issued two acres of land in Gandhi Mandapam.

Enraged fans were seen wrecking havoc outside Kauvery Hospital. Despite, Stalin's request to maintain peace, ardent Kalaignar fans became violent outside the hospital. Following the prevalent tension in the city, commando security has been ordered outside CM Palaniswami's house. Security was beefed up after rumours of DMK cadres attacking the CM's residence.
