Phata Poster Nikla Hero is an upcoming action comedy film directed by Rajkumar Santoshi starring Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D Cruz in the lead roles.  Music of the film is composed by Pritam Chakraborthy. Here is an exclusive music review of the album

Tu Mere Agal Bagal Hai
Singers: Mika Singh
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil

A typical energetic number which has a peppy and comic feel true to the theme of the film. The presence of Indian Instruments like Harmonium gives the song an indigenous feel. However, it is Mika Singh’s voice which goes through lot of funky modulations giving making it a fun hearing. The lazed out style of composing makes it a winner!

Main Rang Sharbaton Ka
Singers: Atif Aslam, Chinmayi Sripada
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil

After a fun beginning, the album takes a turn with this laid back melody sung by Atif Aslam and Chinmayi.  The tune irresistibly reminds the listener of Kyun Jaane Naa from Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani directed by Rajkumar Santoshi! The song is a pleasant hearing with neatly layered orchestra and simple presentation. Chinmayi wonderfully compliments Atif’s breezy voice with her earthly voice.

Hey Mr DJ
Singers: Benny Dayal, Shafali Alvarez, Shalmali Kholgade
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya

The catchy accordion driven prelude takes off convincingly with Benny Dayal’s powerful voice. This dance tune seems like easy work for Pritam- who is masterful in such tracks right from the beginning of his career.  The female voices are nicely used in the backing vocals complimenting Benny Dayal’s effort. The fun sing along chorus is the icing on top of this tasty tune.

Mere Bina Tu
Singers: Harshdeep Kaur, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil

A soothing melody with powerful vocals of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan wonderfully balances the pace of the album. The country rock styled guitar slide touches in the interludes and Hindustani styled singing of the vocalist blend perfectly. The orchestration is neatly done mellowing down whenever Rahat takes command over the song. Harshdeep Kaur’s fresh voice makes for great listening.

Dhating Naach
Singers: Nakash Azi, Neha Kakkad, Shefali Alvarez
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya

Pritam takes things up a notch with a full on folk number next.  The catchy rhythm takes the song forward with the vocals energizing the listener instantly. The song keeps its promise of being a fast paced folk composition. However, it does get a bit repetitive as it progresses by.

Janam Janam
Singers: Atif Aslam
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil

A pleasant melody sung again by Atif Aslam who once again pours life into the tune. The guitar and piano follows the tune convincingly and the stirring string section in the interludes elevates the composition. But it’s Atif Aslam who shows how a simple tune can be turned grandiose with a heartfelt performance.

Main Rang Sharbaton Ka (Reprise)
Singers: Arijith Singh
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil

Another lilting melody to grace the album arrives next- this time in Arijith Singh’s voice.  This version is well rearranged with a nice blend of rock and folk.  While this take might be lighter on the ears, its most definitely as lively as the original.

Janam Janam (Reprise)
Singers: Sunidhi Chauhan
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil

This pleasant melody is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan with wonderful control over her voice and a great piano base. The violin support makes it a beautiful, earthy and draws more emotional connect than Atif Aslam’s version. The laid back piano solo in the interlude is another highlight of the song.  The harmony of Piano and Violin is done brilliantly.

Janam Janam (Sad Version)
Singers: Atif Aslam
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil

A sad version of Janam Janam arrives now in the voice of Atif Aslam again. Beautiful strings take over the song with the singer’s soulful voice. This version is made heart wrenching and emotional by the singer and the well designed orchestration.

Mere Bina Tuu
Singers: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil

The solo version is totally Rahat ‘s show altogether! His energetic vocals take the song to a new level and he goes to new dimensions in performing it flawlessly. This version definitely comes close to the duet version positioned earlier in the album.

Verdict: Pritam delivers the goods yet again!
