Two killed and 26 injured during stampede outside Rajaji Hall

DMK veteran Dr M Karunanidhi passed away at the Kauvery Hospital on August 7 at 6.10 pm following a decline in his health. The five-time former CM was admitted to the hospital on July 26 following a fever due to urinary tract infection.

 

His body was kept at his residence in Gopalapuram for a few hours and then taken to his residence at CIT Nagar as well. After 3 am, Kalaignar's body was taken to Rajaji Memorial Hall for public view.

 

Many rushed to pay homage to the DMK leader, due to which a massive crowd gathered at the hall. DMK working president MK Stalin publicly addressed the crowd to disperse and maintain peace.


Police lathi-charged the mass of supporters due to which a stampede occurred. Reportedly, in the stampede, two were killed and 26 were injured.
