PM Narendra Modi arrives at Rajaji Hall to pay last respects

DMK veteran Dr M Karunanidhi passed away at the Kauvery Hospital on August 7 at 6.10 pm following a decline in his health. The five-time former CM was admitted to the hospital on July 26 following a fever due to urinary tract infection.

 

His body was kept at his residence in Gopalapuram for a few hours and then taken to his residence at CIT Nagar as well. After 3 am, Kalaignar's body was taken to Rajaji Memorial Hall for public view.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the Chennai Airport and was received by CM Palaniswami, Deputy CM O Panneerselvam and Governor Banwarilal Purohit. He reached Rajaji Hall along with Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP Regional Chief Tamilisai Soundararajan and other ministers to pay their last respects to the DMK patriarch.

 

Modi could be seen talking to Kalaignar's family members including Kanimozhi and Stalin. After paying homage to the DMK Chief, Modi left.
