WhatsApp update to feature advertisements in 2019

According to reports, WhatsApp may undergo some serious changes that will affect user experience. Facebook, the tech giant that owns WhatsApp is looking for ways to serve advertisements on the messaging app.

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging platforms and so far remained ad-free. Recently, Alex Stamos, the Chief Security Officer of Facebook tweeted, "Eventually, WhatsApp is going to need to generate revenue... This could come from directly charging for the service, it could come from advertising, it could come from a WeChat-like services play. This first is very hard across countries, the latter two are complicated by E2E."

WABetainfo, a popular WhatsApp leaks portal disclosed that the messaging app is testing out advertisements in the Stories feature. The ads may be similar to the ones found between Stories on Instagram. The feature was first noticed on the iOS operating system.
