CHENNAI - GOVT SCHOOL TEACHERS AND EMPLOYEES GO ON INDEFINITE STRIKE

According to reports, government school teachers and employees from other state government departments on Tuesday morning went on an indefinite strike.

According to the Joint Action Committee of Tamil Nadu Teachers Organisation (JACTO-GEO), over seven lakh members boycotted work on Tuesday. JACTO-GEO's demands include the scrapping of the new contributory pension scheme, regularisation of services of those under special consolidated pay and payment of 21-months arrears of pay commission recommendations.

Coordinator of the umbrella organisation revealed that if their demands were not met, their protests would intensify.
