Rare purple tea from Arunachal Pradesh sold for a whooping price

As Indians most of us are obsessed with tea. And we have multiple varieties: Masala, ginger, black tea, green tea. In case you're bored of the usual, there's a new and rare purple tea in town.

In the heart of Arunachal Pradesh's East Siang District are wild vegetations of a rare variety of tea. Rich in its health benefits, it was once believed to be from Kenya. But in 2015, the Tocklai Tea Research Institute published a paper revealing that this exotic tea, actually originated in India–Assam, to be accurate.

Even more special is the fact that the tea is purple in colour!

The exotic purple brew is being sold for a stupendous Rs 24,501. According to Telegraph, rich in health benefits like fighting cancer, and also good for the heart, this tea is a product of wild vegetation.

The purple colour of the brew is because of the high levels of Anthocyanin, a flavonoid robust with antioxidants. According to Telegraph, the tea is mild and has no astringency. It's almost like green tea, you know, but like without that grassy penchant

Earlier this week, 1.25 kg of this purple tea was sold to Dugar Consumer Products Pvt Ltd based in Guwahati, Assam, at a whopping price of Rs 24,501!
