It
is customary for the big names of
the film industry to host New Year
parties and other big names and close
associates to attend. Shah Rukh Khan
hosted a party to welcome 2007 and
most of the big names who are close
friends of SRK showed up. But there
were some people who were prominent
with their absence.
It is not new knowledge that relationships between
SRK and the Bachchan’s have been a bit strained
over the last few months. However, they were seen
together on screen in Karan Johar’s Kabhi
Alvida Naa Kehna. Recently, Amitabh Bachchan had
said a few good things about SRK at a public meeting.
SRK too has only good things to say about the
Big B. Things seemed to be fine. After all, minor
clashes are pretty common in the industry. It
was expected to settle down soon.
But, the absence of Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek
Bachchan from SRK’s party sends serious
signals. Is the rift much deeper than we all thought?
Will two of the biggest faces in Bollywood never
get over what once seemed to a petty issue? Will
they never be seen together on screen again? These
are questions that can be answered only by the
warring parties. Or, are we reading too deeply
into a small issue. The Bachchan’s could
have had other engagements to attend. Let us hope
so.
Also prominent with her absence was Aishwarya
Rai. Her proximity to the Bachchan’s is
well known. Is that what kept her away from the
party? One never thought that a simple New Year
party can throw up so many complicated questions.
