Music Review : Sivakasi
Sivakasi

Sivakasi, follows the title with cracking numbers. For the first time Srikanth Deva, has joined hands with Vijay and Srikanth has scored music which will appeal to the huge fan following of the Ilaya Thalapathy.

The movie has Asin pairing with Vijay and Nayantara appears for a song sequence. The director of the movie Perarasu, has penned lyrics himself. The album has a variety of singers and Srikanth Deva has utilized them rightly.

1) Vaada Vaada: (Shanker Mahadevan)
A racy song! No doubt, this number is the first song of the movie. The song is fast paced with heavy usage of instruments. For, an introduction song this type of recording has become the latest fashion. The song is nothing special except for Shanker’s voice. As usual Shanker Mahadevan has done his job perfectly.

2) Kodambakkam Area: (Tippu, Shobha Chandrasekhar)
A dapanguthu song! Shobha Chandrasekhar, mother of Vijay has sung this song along with Tippu. It is usual in Vijay’s films for his mother to sing a song. Her voice is really rasping providing the right pace for the song. For, this song Nayantara has appeared for the dance sequemce. The whole credit goes to Shobha and she has outsmarted Tippu in this particular song.

3) Ada Enatha Soluvengo: (Udit Narayanan, Anuradha Sriram)
A frisky song! The two different voices have given a good result. A song to satisfy the front benchers! The problem with this song is orchestration is very heavy, especially the beats, so you can’t enjoy the lyrics, though they are captivating. The voices of the singers get full marks for this song.

4) Deepavali Deepavali: (KK, Vasundara Das)
A lively song! On hearing the song you can immediately relate the song with old fast beat compositions of Ilayaraja. A round of applause for Srikanth Deva’s recording. In this particular song, he has mixed western music with folk music in a right manner. The usage of guitar in this song is an added beauty. KK is not the right pick for this song, whereas Vasundara amazes with her voice.

5) Edhu Enna: (Harish Ragavendra, Uma Ramanan)
A melody song! Uma Ramanan has sung a song after a long gap. Her voice is really wonderful to hear and with much of ease she has sung the song pretty well. The song has got good lyrics penned by the director, fine orchestration from Srikanth Deva and exact voices for the song. Harish Ragavendra has added to the glamour of the song with Uma Ramanan.

6) Enn Thevaithukkey: (Mukesh)
A pathos song! A new comer Mukesh has added glory to this song. The lyrics of the song clearly state the relationship between a mother and a son. This is the only emotional song in the whole album. The song goes in a uniform manner without much undulation. The song lacks the emotive power to enthuse the audience.

Altogether, the album is a gala for front benchers!
