mk azhagiri to hold rally in chennai today

Weeks after the demise of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, his sons have been engaged in a war to claim the DMK patriarch's legacy.

Days after Karunanidhi's demise, MK Azhagiri stood at his father's burial site and claimed "real supporters of DMK are with me. Time will tell what will happen." This veiled attack on DMK and his brother MK Stalin came just a day before the DMK Executive Committee Meet.

The former DMK strongman from Madurai is now set to hold a silent march in Chennai, in what is being seen as his first show of strength against his brother and party president MK Stalin. Azhagiri has claimed that the rally is being organised as per the wishes of the party cadre.

"They (cadre) only wanted me to take the lead in organising the march, to pay homage (to Karunanidhi)," Azhagiri told reporters. The silent march will be held from Triplicane police station to Karunanidhi's memorial at the Marina Beach.

Azhagiri, who has been out of lazy politics for four years, is unwilling to go down without a fight. After failed attempts to make his way back into the party, Azhagiri is now set to take on Stalin publicly. Claiming that the party cadre are with him, he referred to Stalin as a working president "who does not work".

In light of the march, security has been beefed up at the Karunanidhi's memorial at the Marina Beach.
