Stickers to indicate fuel type to be made mandatory for vehicles

The Supreme Court of India has directed the Centre to make it mandatory for all vehicle owners in the country to put up a hologram or coloured sticker to denote the fuel type of their vehicle.

According to a report in The Financial Express, an SC-bench of judges has directed the government to issue holograms or stickers to all commercial and private vehicles. As per the court verdict, all commercial and personal vehicle owners will now have to put stickers on their car to highlight the fuel type used for that particular vehicle - all types of cars including sedans, hatchbacks, SUVs and hybrid vehicles.

Commercial vehicles that run on CNG will also need to put up the sticker on the front windshield of the vehicle. The apex court has directed the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to advertise the new directive and make people aware. The Ministry will inform people about how and where to get these stickers.

The apex court’s decision comes after a proposal in this regard was floated by MoRTH, which suggested a light-blue hologram for cars running on petrol and CNG and orange to denote cars running on diesel-run vehicles.
