Puli is one of the most awaited films of the season, starring Vijay, Shruti Haasan and Hansika in the lead roles. This film directed by Chimbu Devan will feature songs composed by Devi Sri Prasad. The album comprises of 6 numbers in total and for one of which Vijay himself has rendered his voice while all the songs have been penned by Vairamuthu.

Yaendi Yaendi
Singers: Shruti Haasan, Vijay
Lyrics: Vairamuthu

The album starts with a breezy romantic number. It’s majorly a guitar driven song which is minimalistic in terms of its orchestration. The string sections during the interludes and a portion which refurbishes some of Raja sir’s flute pattern are a bliss to our ears. Another effortless rendition from Vijay, he must sing more often. DSP has reserved one of his best tunes for Vijay. Shruti Haasan brings in the required flavor to the song specially when she croons the phrase ‘Puliman pudi pattu pochu puli kaile adipattu pochu’. The usage of sweet Tamil words that are not used by a commoner these days like Kamala Pennae, add more lusciousness to the taste.

Singers: Javed Ali, Pooja AV
Lyrics: Vairamuthu

DSP type masala song strictly to satisfy B and C center audience. Singer, Javed Ali makes an impression, so does Pooja. It’s an experimental number layered with some interesting lyrics like Chitrakulan (Half man).

Singers: MM Manasi, Shankar Mahadevan
Lyrics: Vairamuthu

A funky track, housing the powerful voice of Shankar Mahadevan with timely usage of nadaswaram and thavil. A typical DSP song which will grow on you.

Mannavanae Mannavanae
Singers: Anita , Chimayi, MLR Karthikeyan, Sooraj Santhosh
Lyrics: Vairamuthu

Begins with a very thoughtful combination of instruments. It’s a nicely paced track which keeps the listeners alert and highly engaged. Chinmayi does a neat job for this pumping number. Majestic grand trumpets and drums add zest to Kaviperarasu Vairamuthu’s authoritative lyrics here. The song also ends off with a bang.

Singers: Mano, Priyadharshini
Lyrics: Vairamuthu

Another song which is not so easy on the ears but sure to leave a dent with the visuals. It’s more of a situational number layered with strong compelling lyrics. But one feels that lyrics doesn’t necessarily gell well with the folksy beat. Mano who has sung so many superhit numbers for Vijay in the past, makes another energetic rendition, leaving an imposing presence.

Manidha Manidha
Singers: Tippu
Lyrics: Vairamuthu

A well put together motivational number with Tippu's dynamic vocals. Vairamuthu scores big time once again; his lyrics are so powerful and meaningful. This again is grand in terms of orchestration programmed to suit the grand visual extravaganza.

Verdict: Puli's music will need the grand visuals as it is programmed keeping in mind whats going to come onscreen
