It’s
official. Abhishek Bacchhan and Aishwarya
Rai will marry in the foreseeable
future. The announcement came after
a brief engagement ceremony at Aishwarya’s
Mumbai residence between 8.30 and
9 P.M. on the 14th of January. Amitabh
Bacchhan personally spoke to the press
about the ceremony. However he said
that no specific date had been decided
upon for the marriage.
The engagement ceremony, called the Roka coincided
with the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti.
Many believe that things had been decided some
time back but were not disclosed to the press
because the month of the Hindu calendar coinciding
with late Dec- early Jan period is considered
very inappropriate to give away good news.
The engagement ceremony was very short and simple
and attended only by very close family members.
There were no pictures taken by the press except
glimpses of Abhishek coming out of Aishwarya’s
house with a garland around his neck. Senior politician
and close friend of the Bacchhans, Amar Singh
was present. There are reports stating that the
marriage will take place some time in February.
