Mayakannadi initially slated for a Diwali release
is caught in a financial crisis now which is affecting
its release.
In the past Panju Arunachalam has produced Kadal
Rajjiyam with director Agathiyan. He had incurred
losses up to 2 cores in this venture. Subsequently
Solla Maranda Kadai with Thangar Bachchan proved
to be a moderate hit but was not enough to pull
him out from financial doldrums. That’s
when he approached Cheran to do a film for him
which is Mayakannadi which was earlier christened
as ‘touring talkies’. Unfortunately
this film has no takers now.
Panju is alleged to have spent around 5 crores
for this film but distributors are very apprehensive
in buying Mayakannadi. Cheran was requested to
release this film himself but he is not keen to
do so. When he was interviewed on this, he felt
he was not obliged to answer anyone regarding
this. But he is very confident about Mayakannadi.
On his alleged relationship with heroine Navya
Nair, he claimed that they share a ‘guru-sishya’
relationship and nothing more than that. |
