An IIT-Madras student was reportedly fined Rs 20,000 for sleeping on the sofa and was made to shift from the hostel as punishment. According to a Deccan Chronicle report, the woman was suffering from a claustrophobic condition (fear of confined places) and the hostel disciplinary committee fined the student about the violation without any prior notice. However, IIT officials clarified that the students were not allowed to sleep in commonplaces and the student should’ve sought medical help if such a condition continued.
