Doctors at Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad had to take a risky decision of transplanting a donor’s heart next to the patient’s heart. The 56-year-old had to go through a heart surgery and have his heart replaced with a 17-year-old brain dead boy’s heart, but their heart sizes were not compatible with each other. Surgeon, A. Gopala Krishna Gokhale decided to use ‘Piggyback Heart Transplant’ and placed the donor’s heart between the right lung and the original heart of the recipient.
