Chandramukhi relieved Tamil cinema from stupor
with its 300 day and still counting run. It
established Superstar Rajinikanth’s pull
and sway over the audience. Chandramukhi’s
story was based on Malayalam, Manichitrathazhu
and Apthamitra in Kannada. While launching the
film itlself, noted Malayalam director Fazil
claimed his rights and the issue was sorted
out by discussion. However, the original writer
of the story in Malayalam Madhu Muttom approached
Kerala High Court and claimed that his name
should be shown in the credits. P. Vasu said
that Chandramukhi was based mostly on Apthamitra
which he had himself written.
