Appa
Rao House at Valasaravakkam was busy that
day. You could find the generator van roaring
all day long. They were shooting for Azhagaana
Ponnuthaan. The onlookers were standing
on their toes to catch a glimpse of voluptuous
Namitha who was gigging for a Kutthu Paatu.
Every time she jumped, the onlookers' hearts
went thumping. For some, it was virtually
exploding. |

We
caught up with Director Thiru who
was happy and eager to share some
of his views about Namitha.
“For all her glamour, Namitha
is basically an innocent girl. We
were looking for such a girl for this
film. The producer wanted to book
Mallika Sherawat but I was adamant
that Namitha be brought in. The producer’s
views were that Mallika had great
popularity and she was well-known
in many countries and she too was
eager to work in a regional film.

When
we called her up, she wanted the story
to be told her over the phone. We
told her the story and she asked who
the hero would be. We told her that
it was a new face called Raja Karthik.
She remained silent for a moment and
then quoted an astounding fee. That
silenced everybody but what shocked
me was that the producer was willing
to shell out that money. But I was
not to give up and explained to the
producer the problems of hiring a
Bombay girl. |

It
would be hard to put her up in a village
where most of the shooting would be and
it would be difficult to get her call sheets
continuously, busy as she is in Bollywood.
The producer finally gave in and we brought
in Namitha. And Namitha is a predictable
girl.” |
