India plans to build world's highest railway line

According to reports, India is planning to build 498-km-long railway line connecting Leh in Jammu & Kashmir to parts of Himachal Pradesh including Manali. The world's highest railway line, to be built at an altitude of 3,300 metres will overtake the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. Once completed, India can ferry troops and equipment through the line towards the border it shares with China.
