The Indian Army has reportedly encroached upon a land belonging to the highways department near the Island Grounds in Anna Salai. According to reports, the Army has built fences and gates on the encroached land. The highway department has even issued an objection notice to the Army. But, the Army has defended its action and said it had fenced off for security reasons and to prevent people entering into the land from a nearby slum.
