Not every producer starts a film with full financing in place. Several production companies launch films with the intention that once the formal puja is complete, the film’s rights would be sold and from the money received, shooting could be completed. Therefore, they decide on the hero and pay him an advance. Such a flawed approach, has caused more damage than good. If sufficient sums are not received, the production company cannot muster funds from other sources and the film’s shooting cannot be continued and the project is shelved.

In such a situation, the hero would refuse to return the advance citing contractual clauses. Therefore, the Film Producers’ Association has passed a resolution that in cases where the film’s shooting cannot be commenced, the hero should return the advance forthwith. This resolution has been communicated to the Film Actors Guild. Everyone now awaits Captain Vijayakanth’s reaction to the notice.
