Yashraj Films has been having a very lean patch off late with almost all their releases post Chak De India falling flat. Even before Chak De India they hadn’t been having a great 2007 with failures like Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom. In the latter part of 2007 there was Aaja Nach Le, Lagaa Chunari Mein Daag and 2008 witnessed the great Tashan disaster which very nearly

tarnished the image of the haloed production house.

Now, they have come out with another release, one that will determine whether they can remain the undisputed kings of the industry, especially with other young banners like UTV catching up with competent movies. Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic opened on Friday and shoulders the burden of returning Yashraj to the pedestal. The movie features the hit pair Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherjee returning after Ta Ra Rum Pum and is directed by Kunal Kohli of Hum Tum and Fanaa fame.

Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic is a family entertainer with four children essaying very important characters. Generally, such movies when from the Yashraj banner are tremendously hyped, especially in the overseas market. However, the hype around this one was relatively cold, maybe due to the string of flops and the lackluster music.

The movie got off to an average opening on Friday owing to the low levels of publicity but carries positive reviews and word of mouth. One thing is for sure - it will not be a flop in the Tashan league. Safe returns are guaranteed, but what Yahsraj needs at the moment is a hit that can reaffirm them as the Bollywood’s biggest production house.
