Namitha's take on Malavika

Malavika was finally shown the door by producer Anjaneyulu and director Veera after the actress refused to star in the film as she was given some difficult steps to dance and an allegation that the producer made sexual advances towards her. Radha Ravi tried to intervene and pacify the actress to complete the film, Malavika refused to act stating that her doctor had advised complete rest. Malavika signed on the dotted lines to play the female lead in Karthigai. The film was shot for about 15 days in Malaysia but was later shelved due to financial constraints. Meanwhile, the actress married industrialist Sumesh and is now expecting their first child. Malavika was on the sets, in spite of her pregnancy, when Karthigai resumed its shooting when the alleged incident occurred.

Director Veera said that the team has decided to replace Malavika with Namitha and all the scenes that were shot with the former will be re-shot. The director also disclosed that he intends to file a case against Malavika asking for compensation for the losses incurred. On a final note he asserted that coming from Andhra Pradesh he was willing to comply with the Nadigar Sangam but the Mumbai actress had no regard for it.
