What Ravivarman lost for Dasavatharam?
June 28, 2008

Now that most of us have seen Dasavatharam, we have an idea about the kind of effort that would have gone into its making, with more than one Kamal in almost every frame. Two years went into its making and the entire crew was bound to it for the duration. This meant that none of them were able to give their time to any other project in the interim. Ask

Ravivarman
Ravivarman about this and he replies in the affirmative. Yes, he says, two years for Dasavatahram did mean that he lost out on at least a couple of other projects. That is indeed a loss to contend with but Ravivarman was quick to complete his statement that Dasavatharam has been a learning experience that cannot be paralleled and what he learnt at the university (Dasavatharam) cannot be learnt from any other place. So, the two years were certainly well spent.

Speaking more about the Dasavatharam experience Ravivarman revealed how the car chase scene in the United States was filmed at night. The light was provided by a huge helium balloon and as many as five cameras were used to film the scene. Having learnt a lot from Dasavatharam we can expect Ravivarman to have turned on the magic in his directorial debut Moscowin Kaveri which is currently in its post production stage. We can also expect a few touches of class in Vijay’s Villu where he handles camera.
