The Chennai Trekking Club, which organised the trekking of a 27-member group, has explained that the expedition was carried out by Nisha and Dhivya, who are supported by experienced organisers Vipin and Arun. They also bought the entry pass and pursued on the regular route, the Club’s Facebook post said. There was no sign of fire when they started to trek, it added. The Club also said that the local farmers, as a regular practice, burnt grass on Sunday, and due to the unexpected strong winds, the fire spread across the hill.
