According to reports, a major fire broke out in the shops near the Madurai Meenakshi temple due to short circuit. The fire, which started in a shop, quickly spread to other shops as they had stored easily inflammable articles such as toys. Three fire tenders have reportedly been rushed to the spot to bring the fire under control.
