According to a report in The Times of India, the maternal mortality rate in Chennai has gone up by 80 percent in the past five years, as per the data released by the Greater Chennai Corporation. It was also reported that deaths related to labour were higher in private hospitals compared to government ones, thus dispelling the myth that private care was better.
