According to reports, a tribal man from Panchkelguri village in West Bengal’s Alipurduar district, was arrested for trying to hang his daughter as she didn’t obey his orders to stop going to school. The 11-year-old girl was rescued by her uncle, who was nearby. The incident, which took place on February 6, came to light when a teacher enquired the girl about her week-long absence from school. The class 5 student alleged that her father and stepmother tortured and forced her to do household work. She also reportedly told, during investigation, that she wasn’t given enough food and she survived on mid-day meals.
