song that embarrassed Chief Minister
at the felicitation

The
felicitation function held to honour the
Chief Minister the other day doesn’t
seem to have been well planned. The event
was supposed to be a cultural feast with
many of the leading lights of the industry
performing on stage. But, it seems that
some people lost sight of the purpose of
the function.
The
function was held to thank the CM
for his move to waive the entertainment
tax for movies with Tamil titles.
It must be noted here that the CM
waived the tax for ‘Tamil’
titles. The cultural show must have
been along these lines, highlighting
Tamil culture. But that is not what
it turned out to be, westernism was
evident from the word go. It was quite
a sight when the C M rested his forehead
in his palm in exasperation during
a Jeyam Ravi performance which had
more than ‘just’ a dose
of English words. Maybe, in the excitement
of performing before the C M, many
of the stars forgot the reason for
which this function was being held.
