Two professors of the Madras University allege
that Ilayaraja did not score symphony music
at all. This news has created ripples because
recently Raja’s Thiruvachagam in Oratorio
format has become a big hit. The professors,
V and Venkatesan of Presidency College and Department
of Music have said that Raja had asked the London
Philharmonic Orchestra to play under his baton
by paying some fee. The professors claim that
they have documentary confirmation from the
Orchestra. Besides, they also claim that Symphony
and Oratorio are not the same. Hence, Raja should
come out with an explanation. We do not know
the background behind such remarks after such
a long time, but let us wait and watch the developments.
