As news spread last week that Indra Nooyi would be the new chief of Pepsico, Chennaiites were justifiably proud of one of their own who made it big.

The Madras-born, MCC and IIM educated Indra Nooyi (nee Krishnamurthy) had been a bubbly personality right through her stint in school and college. She showed early signs of her leadership qualities by organizing fund raisers for various charitable causes.

Could there be someone from our city who escaped from the impact of Kollywood? Unlikely and Indra is no exception. Her mother, Shanta, revealed that her precocious daughter was very fond of old, Tamil classics especially Nagesh’s comedies. The choice could not be more apt as both are sunny personalities.

Indra would assume office from October and she is expected to visit her hometown in December in time for the music season
