6.0 earthquake hits Southern Japan

According to the US Geological Survey, a magnitude 6.0 quake hit at a depth of 10 kilometers in waters off the island of Miyako in the southern Okinawan chain on Tuesday. Japan's Meteorological Agency warned of small changes in sea levels but no tsunami. Miyako, with a population of about 55,000 located at 1,840 kilometers southwest of Tokyo and about 380 kilometers east of Taipei.
