Veeram and Jilla - Overseas box-office collection reports, UPDATED
Jan 13, 2014Tamil films are known to enjoy huge reception in overseas markets such as Malaysia and the USA. The two recent biggies, Jilla and Veeram, reiterated this by doing very well in these two countries in their first weekend (Jan 10th to Jan 12th, with special premier shows on Jan 9th).
The business details of Jilla and Veeram in the USA after the first weekend are as follows
- Thursday premieres - both the movies grossed 33,000 USD each
- Friday - Veeram 54,000 USD and Jilla 60,000 USD
- Saturday - Veeram 82,000 USD and Jilla 72,000 USD
- Sunday - Veeram 30,000 USD and Jilla 27,000 USD
- Total - Veeram 202,696 USD (1.24 crores) and Jilla 194,172 USD (1.19 crores)
In Malaysia, Jilla debuted at Number 2 in the Malaysian weekend Top 10 chart while Veeram opened at Number 3. Jilla was released in 69 screens while Veeram opened in 62 screens. While Jilla grossed 414,050 Malaysian Ringgits (around 78 lakhs), Veeram grossed 376,859 Malaysian Ringgits (around 71 lakhs)
In Australia, Veeram opened at Number 15 with a weekend gross of 61,811 Australian dollars (around 34.3 lakhs). Jilla grossed 31,679 Australian dollars (around 17.5 lakhs)
