Isaki Muthu (28) and Subbulakshmi (25), a couple from Kasitharmam area of Tirunelveli on Monday attempted self-immolation after setting their two daughters on fire at the district collectorate. The family, including their two daughters Madhi Sarvinya (5) and Akshaya Baranika (one and a half-year-old), suffered serious burn injuries and have been admitted to Tirunelveli government medical college and hospital. The couple took the decision as a money lender harassed them over a debt of Rs 1.45 lakh even after the family had paid Rs 2.34 lakh.
