Exclusive: Chennai's popular jewellery chain shutdown, customers' money in vain

The recent event of the jewellery shop Nathella Sampath Chetty closing down multiple shops in Chennai has put their customers to break down. The famous jewellery shop has released a note stating that they require a time of two weeks to settle their financial dues and will return all the payment dues and jewellery to their customers in the stipulated time. When we tried to reach the corporate office of Nathella, they were unavailable to pick up the call. But there are a certain number of complaints recently put on the official website of National Consumer Complaint Forum.

 

Chitra Mohan, a resident from Tambaram when spoke to us said, "We had paid a monthly scheme for gold for almost two years and we are yet to receive grams of gold from the shop in Tambaram even after two months after the end date of the scheme. When I approached the shop asking them for her value of gold, the store officials responded saying that they will be able to provide silver or diamond ornaments but won't be able to give her gold". Reportedly, a police complaint had been filed and the manager of the Nathella Sampath Chetty in Chrompet has been arrested for defrauding Rs. 17.57 lakhs.
