At least five people were killed and 44 others injured after a private bus and a TNSTC bus collided head-on at Pallavarayanpettai in Thanjavur district on Monday, reports say. The accident reportedly took place when the driver of the private bus from Tiruvarur to Thanjavur tried to overtake a car. The TNSTC bus was reportedly travelling from Tiruchi to Nagapattinam. The injured were rushed to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital where they are receiving treatment, reports added.
