India’s first transgender medical student from Tamil Nadu

Madras High Court judge justice Kirubakaran on Monday passed on order directing Tamil Nadu government to allocate a medical seat in the Government Siddha Medical College to transgender Tharika Banu within a week. Tharika Banu, a native of Ulakudi of Thoothukudi, moved to Madras High Court after her application was rejected for counselling for medical admission. Reports suggest that Tharika is the first transgender medical student in India.
