DGP transfers Thoothukudi shooting case to CB-CID

According to reports, the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police TK Rajendran on Tuesday transferred the anti-Sterlite protest case on May 22 to the CB-CID.

 

On May 22, the 100th day of the anti-Sterlite protest that took place in Thoothukudi turned violent after the police opened gunfire against the protestors. The violence resulted in the death of 13 and many were injured. Following this, the TN government on Monday ordered to have the Sterlite copper plant sealed and permanently closed.

 

Reportedly, according to the first-information reports (FIR) filed in Thoothukudi on May 22, it was revealed that two deputy tahsildars had issued the firing. Now with the case transferred to the CB-CID, the accused behind the mass-firing can be identified faster.
