DMK not to attend Assembly session until CM Palaniswami resigns: Stali

Tamil Nadu opposition leader MK Stalin has said that DMK legislators will not participate in the Assembly session until Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami resigns taking responsibility for the Thoothukudi police firing, which killed at least 13 persons. The DMK working president termed the government’s order endorsing the permanent closure of Sterlite copper plant “an eyewash”.

Stalin emphasized that the government should have convened a cabinet meeting and passed a resolution holding the closure of the plant as the state’s policy decision. By not doing so, CM Palaniswami-led government had left it open to the Sterlite company to approach a court and re-open the plant, he alleged.

Earlier, DMK lawmakers came to attend the Assembly session wearing black shirts as a sign of protest against the AIADMK government over the Thoothukudi police firing. Congress MLAs were also seen wearing black badges in the Assembly.
