UP CM Yogi Adityanath has asked IIT Kanpur to help with inducing artificial rainfall over Lucknow city to combat the heavy smog caused by the burning of crops in the state. The CM has also banned the burning of waste in public spaces in an attempt to control pollution in the state.
Artificial rain is created by a process called cloud seeding where the clouds are sprayed with Silver Iodide or dry ice, which helps in the formation of ice crystals which later melt and fall as rain drops.
