Irandam Ulagam (aka) Irandam Ulagam release expectation

Here is someone who constantly raises the bar, set by himself. Selvaraghavan cannot be bundled into genres and his movies are proof. His latest, Irandam Ulagam, is poised to bring a James Cameron-ish desi Avatar to Tamil screens. Shot widely in locales never before ventured into by directors, Irandam Ulagam is being released in Telugu and Hindi as well. If you are not yet impressed by the very interesting visuals and the star cast, here is why you should watch the movie.

According to Rajeev Kamineni, Executive Director, PVP Cinema, “Irandam Ulagam is by far the biggest and most ambitious of all the projects that Arya worked in.” That it is releasing right after his recent success Arrambam will also raise its anticipation quotient among his fans.

He explains, “After Selva narrated his script, we realized that it was a challenge straightaway, but we were willing to take it up. 20 crores was our initial budget. But, after getting into production, we realized that the film demanded more. In the end, we had to invest 60 crores and now we are extremely happy with the way the film has shaped up.

Adding a bit about Arya’s work for the movie, Rajeev declares, “Arya has put in extra effort into ensuring that both the characters are distinct physically but have a seamless emotional connect.” He also adds, “Arya has a nerdy look in one part of the movie and plays a macho warrior in another part. His screen presence will be appreciated the most.”

Selvaraghavan’s ladies always have strong characters in his films and in Irandam Ulagam, Anushka plays a character named Varna. Rajeev says, “Anushka on the other hand plays a doctor and a warrior. Varna is her character name and the audience, for the duration of the film, will forget her real identity.”

The film was shot in a remote but exotic area in Georgia. This 90 days schedule was apparently very enduring but the team grew very close during the shoot. About the experience, Rajeev says, “More than the performance, they both must be appreciated for their commitment. We shot the film in very difficult conditions and not once they complained or expressed their discomfort.”

No doubt, the movie will be a visual treat “to not just the Arya fans but for everyone who loves cinema and for believers of love,” he asserts. “It’s a visually stunning film. It will be something you’d have never experienced before. Audience will be transported to a different world and this place would be grand. But the local nativity and sensibility will be maintained throughout,” he assures.

He also cites the music of the film as one of the biggest pluses. “Irandam Ulagam is Selvaraghavan’s vision for love. Harris Jayaraj and Anirudh, with their songs and background scores have translated Selvaraghavan’s vision into beautiful music,” feels Rajeev.

‘Novelty factor in production value’ is another highlight says the executive director of PVP Cinema. “No compromises were made in production. We are immensely satisfied with the final product,” smiles Mr Kamineni.

The movie, produced by PVP Cinema, will have a huge opening in recent times and it is releasing worldwide in more than 1200 screens, in its Tamil and Telugu versions put together, this weekend.
