''Of course, there is family support'', Karthik Raja admits - Event Story

Mar 05, 2014

Music composer Karthik Raja and the eldest son of Ilayaraja convened a press meet today, the 5th of March in Chennai to announce a grand musical program that is scheduled to be held at Thamukkam Grounds in Madurai on the 5th of April 2014.

This program titled Raajavin Sangeetha Thirunal will feature many prominent singers like K S Chithra, Hariharan, Haricharan, Shalini, Mano and others and it is expected to be grander than the one which was recently held in Malaysia.

Karthik Raja announcing the program said, “This one is for the people of Pannaipuram”. While talking about the genesis of this idea, he states, “When my dad was in the hospital recently, there were many calls from all over the world enquiring about his health and most of it was from my native Pannaipuram. I was quite touched by their concern and wanted to do something to show my gratitude and this is the least I could do, to arrange a grand musical program”.

Since Pannaipuram could not hold a huge gathering, they had zeroed in on nearby Madurai and plans are afoot to bring the Pannaipuram people to Madurai on the said date.

He further added that the rehearsals are set to commence today (5th March) and the songs would of course be Raja sir’s numbers that are generally not played on stage.

Reacting to a question on whether there would be participation from his younger brother Yuvan, Karthik said, “There is complete family support for this event.”

The other speakers at the event were singers Shalini, Haricharan, Anita, Arunmozhi and S N Surender who made the event lively with a short rendition of a song each.

The proceeds of the event are said to go to a school being constructed in Pannaipuram under Jeeva Ilayaraja Education Trust.
