Raja Rani - A Hit or Miss? ... A detailed box-office report

By now, the word about Raja Rani is out and the general perception about the movie is that it is a commercial success. Most of the audience has seen this enjoyable rom-com in its first weekend and the occupancies were close to 100% in all the theaters. In Chennai and suburbs, the movie has grossed more than 2.4 crores, which is something that only the big superstar films have managed thus far.

The overall gross from the South (Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka) for the first weekend is 12.2 crores, with the daily breakup being 3.7, 4.0 and 4.5 crores respectively. Tamil Nadu is expected to have contributed more than 10.5 crores to this amount. With each progressive day collecting more than the preceding day, the positive word of mouth prevailing for the movie is completely justified. Today, the advance booking in some of the prominent theaters around Chennai City is fabulous and the weekdays are expected to continue the weekend momentum.

NSC - 94 screens, released by Red Giant Movies

Salem - 45 screens, released by Red Giant Movies

Trichy - 30 screens, released by GT Films

Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur and Ooty - 60 screens, released by Sakthi Films

Tuticorin, Kanyakumari and Tiruchendur - 13 screens, direct release

In Pondicherry, the response has been similarly fabulous with the first weekend being completely sold out at the three releasing theaters - Muruga, Raja and Jeeva (Big Cinemas). Ladies are particularly in love with the film and the first 3 days gross from Pondy is 24 lakhs.
